Hablar idiomas

Mi Rumano mejora a marchas forzadas, eso si, hay cosas que son un lenguaje universal....

Speeding Tickets

Today I´ve realized I´m amassing a collection of photos of homeless people. There are plenty of them here in Bucharest, but it would hardly make a fair portrait of the life, the energy and the bustle of the streets here. Since making this observation with myself and with the aid of a soothing cup of tea, I started to ponder on just how objective photography is really....

On an elemental level photography is as objective a medium as you can find, maybe only surpassed by a xerox copy. Yet the moment the camera is in front of the photographers eye it becomes totally subjective, thus it could be said the only truly objective "street photo" are those taken by traffic radar cameras.

Madrugar, o no...

Es reconfortante ver que por no madrugar uno no tiene por que haber perdido la oportunidad de tener una mañana provechosa.

El tamaño importa.

Por cierto, si pinchas en la foto, Tachan! se ve mas grande...

Make believe

Bruce Guilden once wrote that "if you can smell the street by looking at the photo, then it´s a street photograph". To me they always seem to smell of fixer, even the digital ones, it´s just deep in my mind that way. Now if the photo was taken on the back lot street of a film studio, is it a street photo? regardless of the scent....

Time just flies...

Not much time for photos today, but I´m not sure what else I´ve done... Some days, time just seems to slip away like sand between your fingers....

Teo

Some 5 years ago, this was the first face i saw here in Bucharest, just of the plane. Since then he has been my regular driver, guide, fixer & minder, all of this with an English as good as my Romanian, basically zipp. Recently he´s been promoted; now he drives the kids of Castle Films owner, Mr. Paunescu, to school. I must point out though, he never picked me up in this outfit, nor in the extravagant limo he´s driving today for the shoot. Had he tried I would have fled to the first dusty Dacia in sight.

It´s amazing what a casual finger print on the back of a lens can do for you....

I walk...

I walk, I shoot, and when my feet hurt I stop for tea.... Today my feet hurt in Bucharest, and they only confirm the sad fact that it´s impossible to get a good cup of tea outside of ones own home, or outside the British isles.
